SAP GoingLive Check

Guides you to a smooth start of production and technically robust operations

The SAP GoingLive Check safeguards your SAP solution to a smooth start of production, which is the final milestone of a successful implementation project. This proactive service mitigates the risks that arise from non-optimal system and business process configuration. It ensures a technically robust operation from the beginning and therefore protects your business.

Overview

During this service, SAP checks the solution in a standardized procedure and gives recommendations ensuring optimal performance and system availability for the core business processes. The SAP GoingLive Check is a remote service that uses the end-to-end root cause analysis tools. The results are delivered in a detailed service report.

Depending on your SAP solution and contract type, you will receive a customized GoingLive Service portfolio tailored to your needs. The portfolio consists of two service sessions: Analysis and Verification. The delivery of the individual sessions takes place at key phases in the implementation project:

  • Analysis session: checks the configuration of the SAP system including the database. The session is scheduled a minimum four weeks before your start of production
  • Verification session: verifies the smooth operation and performance of the productive environment and is scheduled approximately four to six weeks after start of production

Value Proposition

The SAP GoingLive Check delivers numerous benefits which help speed up the return on investment for your SAP solution:

  • Preparing your SAP solution so that at the start of production date, it runs with optimal performance, availability and maintainability by
           *  Providing recommendations for optimal configuration
           *  Examining performance-critical business processes
           *  Generating extensive reports with action lists and detailed suggestions for improvement

  • In the end, you save time and money by using SAP's experience gained in thousands of installations by avoiding complications from the very beginning. Providing technical guidelines to minimize unnecessary work and to avoid complications

Description

The SAP GoingLive Check is most applicable during a new implementation or expansion of your current SAP solution when you have a significant increase of data and user volumes. It is made up of two service sessions - Analysis and Verification. The service sessions are used to analyze the important components of your systems. After each session, you receive a detailed report indicating the status of your system and recommendations to be implemented to ensure an optimal implementation and a smooth production start for your SAP solution.

The Analysis Session

The Analysis session should be performed at least six weeks before your planned start of production date. The prerequisites for this session are detailed data about hardware, the number of users for each application, the expected data volume and the interfaces within the entire system. In order for SAP to deliver the Analysis session, the customer needs to complete the "Prepare" step than can be accessed via the SAP Solution Manager "Service Engagement and Service Delivery" work center, or by using a link to access an application in SAP for Me.. The "Prepare" step should be completed approximately one week before the Analysis session. The result of this session is a report that gives information on the hardware resources situation and what parameter configurations need to be performed for a successful start of production.

The Verification Session

The Verification Session is a routine check of the system to verify the assumptions from the Analysis Session. It looks at the following:

  • Implementation of the SAP recommendations listed in the report from previous GoingLive sessions
  • System availability and configuration
  • Performance of business processes

The Verification Session checks your system behavior approximately six weeks after the start of production. The result of this session is a report similar to that received in the Analysis Session. The difference is that now you have a productive system which contains representative data from daily operations, and users can provide feedback on their experience with the production system. The report confirms system configuration and provides additional recommendations for improvements.

Service Procedure & Prerequisites

A convenient delivery date is scheduled with you. The duration may vary according to complexity and your requirements. The Analysis Session of the SAP GoingLive Check is performed six weeks before your start of production. The Verification Session is usually performed six weeks after your start of production. Each session is a closed unit and each session results in an extensive report with a detailed action list and recommendations. For the checks in subsequent service sessions to be effective, you must implement the recommendations that are provided in each report.

The SAP GoingLive Check is available for SAP solutions that are approaching their start of production date. SAP strongly recommends running on an ABAP stack and sending EarlyWatch Alert data periodically.

Make sure "Service Data Quality and Service Readiness" is rated green in the SAP EarlyWatch Alert Workspace.

FAQs

The setup of an implementation project for a SAP solution is a significant milestone for our customers. Especially for midsize and large installations, comprehensive measurements are necessary which require extensive experience. These are

  • Planned data volume
  • Technical solution modeling
  • Test of the data import
  • Workload distribution over several servers
  • System setup to ensure high availability
  • Test of data security procedures
  • Due to the standardized service procedure and the well-defined service scope, customers obtain a high quality service.

The service consists of a system analysis for one installed system as well as the recommendations for system configuration resulting from this analysis. These recommendations are based on SAP's experience and SAP cannot provide any guarantee of their success. Nevertheless SAP's effort is to make full use of the experience and knowledge to achieve the maximum result. Generally speaking, customers can expect an overall improvement in response time of 15% or more.

SAP EarlyWatch Check

SAP Applications: Step-by-step optimization of the application and IT organizational processes

  • Optimization of the central business processes (order entry, etc.)
  • Step-by-step optimization of central background processing (MRP run, collective processing, settlement run, etc.)
  • Step-by-step optimization of frequently used queries

SAP Basis: Constant optimization of system configuration

  • Sizing plausibility check
  • System configuration for the start of production
  • Workload optimization through distribution
  • Capacity planning
  • Bottleneck and performance analysis

Yes, because in principle the activation of additional applications causes a change of the core business processes and the complete load profile of the SAP system. In addition, comprehensive customizing settings are necessary which also have great influence on the performance and should be analyzed and optimized prior the production start.

The technical prerequisites need to be fulfilled as outlined in the "Service Delivery Readiness" tool in your SAP Solution Manager. Furthermore the "Prepare" step needs to be completed to make the delivery of the Analysis session possible.

In any case the SAP EarlyWatch Check is recommended for production systems. The SAP EarlyWatch check analyzes the components of your SAP solution including the database to determine how to optimize performance and keep your total cost of ownership to a minimum.

The SAP GoingLive Check is performed using integrated monitors and standard procedures supported by special tools. The results and the recommendations for system optimization are sent in the form of an individual service report after each of the system checks.
